I have an allergic dog. I am renovating my backyard. Which lawn should I choose?

Most of us like lawn, and for good reasons. It’s hard to play ball games among shrubs, and it’s hard to lie on concrete. Lawns are traditional, attractive and useful. But unfortunately most lawns are also highly allergenic. If you suffer from hayfever or asthma, the chances are that your lawn will make it worse. Grasses flower, as do other plants, and most of them produce pollen. Dogs that are allergic to grass pollen can also be allergic to the grass sap and direct contact with the lawn can make their allergies much worse. The grass to select if you or your dog is allergic is Cynodon dactylon cultivar (“Greenlees Park”) couch: this is a reasonably hardy introduced grass that spreads by runners and has few flowers. Animal Dermatology Clinic can patch test your allergic dog with this, or any other lawn grass you have chosen to check whether your dog reacts to it…before you make an expensive mistake. .
